For edition 2010 of MONUMENTA, which propose each year to a contemporary artist to seize the 13,500 m2 of the great nave, the grand Palais receives the French artist Christian Boltanski for the exibition “Personnes”.
Exceeded the entrance, made up by a gigantic wall of rusted and numbered biscuits books, the spectator penetrates in a completely inhuman place, composed of 69 rectangles distributed over the entire length of the nave, each one made up by clothing carefully distributed on the ground and being characterized by high speakers which emit noises of palpitations. At the bottom of the nave, a fabric monticule and a crane which does not cease raising the hundreds of clothing, the whole lit by enormous projectors of building site. The reference to death and to concentration camps is very present throughout the exposure.
